If you’re living with fibromyalgia, chances are you’re taking a lot of medications and supplements to manage your symptoms. Because of that, it can be difficult to remember to take your meds at the same time every day, and sometimes it’s easy to get confused and wonder if you’ve taken them at all – especially if you suffer from fibro fog!

Not taking your meds according to your doctor’s instructions can have devastating consequences. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, poor medication adherence leads to 125,000 deaths annually in the U.S. and accounts for 40 percent of treatment failures.

If you’re looking for a way to simplify your daily pill taking, check out the PillDrill smart medication tracking system. This is an extremely useful gadget that allows you to scan and track when you’ve taken your medication. And if you forget to take your medications at the appointed time, the PillDrill system will provide an audio-visual reminder so you won’t miss a dose! It’s great for tracking medication adherence for yourself or loved ones.

The following two-minute video provides a short explanation of how the PillDrill system works.

The PillDrill system comes with the following components:

  • The PillDrill Hub, a small Wi-Fi-connected device that issues clear audio-visual alerts whenever medication doses are due. If you miss a dose, the Hub will glow teal, sound an alert and display precise dosage information on its screen. If you took your medication as scheduled, it remains silent.
  • The Pill Strip, a weekly pill organizer with individual pill pods outfitted with sensors. After you’ve taken your medication(s), simply scan the sensor on the bottom of your pill pod using the Hub, and it will log that you’ve taken your medication. Pill Strips snap together and can be customized to fit your individual medication routine. Each starter kit comes with two Pill Strips but more than be ordered if needed. The Pill Strips are ergonomically designed to make filling and accessing your medications so much easier than those hard-to-open pill dispensers available at the drugstore.

Scanning Tags allow you to use any pill bottle or container for easy scanning if you’d prefer to use your medication’s original packaging. Each PillDrill kit comes with 12 scanning tags, but more can be ordered if needed.

  • The Mood Cube is a wellness tracker that enables you to track your mood. Simply scan the appropriate face on the cube – great, good, OK, bad or awful – using the Hub, and it logs your mood.
  • The PillDrill App (optional) syncs with the Hub for medication reminders and updates for yourself or your loved ones. If you’re using PillDrill to track your own medications, the app can be used for medication reminders or to log pill-taking on the go. If you’re a caregiver, the app will send real-time updates throughout the day to let you know when your loved one has taken his/her medications and their mood if they used the Mood Cube. (Your loved one doesn’t need to have access to a smartphone to use PillDrill.)

PillDrill has won several awards for its innovation including being named ECRM’s best new home health product for 2016 and CES Innovation Award Honoree for 2017.

The PillDrill system costs $199 and can be purchased at PillDrill.com. Additional Pill Strips and Scanning Tags are available for purchase as needed. PillDrill is currently shipping to the U.S., Canada and Australia. Other regions are coming soon.

There is no monthly fee for operating the system.
