Pain News Network: Anti-Inflammatory Drugs May Contribute to Chronic Pain
From the article: “Anti-inflammatory drugs that are widely used to treat short-term acute pain disrupt the body’s natural healing process and increase the chances of developing chronic pain, according to a provocative new study by an international team of researchers. If true, it means that ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) used by millions of people every day for the temporary relief of acute pain may contribute to long-term pain that is even harder to treat.”

Product of the Week…
A couple of years ago, I bought the Audible version of “The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma” by Boston-based psychiatrist Bessel van der Kolk, which takes a deep dive into how and why childhood trauma often leads to poorer physical health later in life.
If you aren’t familiar with the research linking childhood trauma to fibromyalgia/chronic pain, ChronicIllnessTraumaStudies.com has a fantastic article on the subject.
I never finished van der Kolk’s book back then because it stirred up bad memories of my childhood and triggered anxiety and panic attacks. You see, my history of childhood trauma and how it relates to my current health challenges is the elephant in the room that I’ve put off addressing for years. It’s just so much easier to try the latest medication, supplement or elimination diet!
Well, earlier this month, I restarted “The Body Keeps the Score.” It’s still hard to listen to it. It still triggers anxiety. My heart still races when van der Kolk cites studies on how childhood trauma impacts the body later in life. I still feel sad when I think of the damage that’s been done. 🙁
But I’m pushing through the book anyway because I think it’s important knowledge for those of us with a traumatic history. (I’m also resuming counseling for additional support.)
Maybe some of you are in the same place. If you are, then I recommend “The Body Keeps the Score” as a starting point. Evidently, a lot of people agree because the book was published back in 2015, and it’s STILL one of Amazon’s best-selling books.

Another excellent collection of news and information! Seems like lots of new research going on in the fibro world. I hope that research will increase for ME/CFS, too, with the new focus on long COVID.
Thanks for all your hard work in pulling this together!

Hi Leslie, yes, I need to do an update on the house and life in general. I should have already done that, but I’ve been really struggling to work / write, and I’ve fallen behind on writing for Fed Up. I’m sorry. I will try to post an update soon b/c several people have messaged me asking me how things are going.
Re: neuropathy … have you tried gabapentin yet? I’m sure you have b/c it’s one of the main treatments for neuropathy but thought I’d mention it just in case. I have neuropathy in my feet and am starting to get it in my fingers, too, and gabapentin helps me with it.
Congrats on that new grandbaby. I know you’re going to be thrilled to finally meet him! 🙂
