BioSpace.com: Aptinyx completes enrollment in phase 2b study of NYX-2925 in fibromyalgia

From the article: “Based on the results of our previous fibromyalgia study, in which NYX-2925 alleviated patients’ symptoms and improved biomarkers of centralized pain processing, we believe it has the potential to deliver meaningfully improved outcomes for fibromyalgia patients. We look forward to completing the study and reporting results later this year.”

2.

HealthRising.org: An X-factor in the blood may be impairing blood vessel functioning in ME/CFS

From the article: “The idea [that] a mystery factor in the blood might be responsible for well, everything, got more interesting when Goebel last year was able to produce fibromyalgia symptoms in mice by giving them something from the plasma (IgG antibodies) of fibromyalgia patients.”

3.

Journal of Clinical Rheumatology: Medical cannabis for the treatment of fibromyalgia

In this small Israeli study, 50% of patients were able to stop taking any other medications for fibromyalgia after using medical cannabis.

Washington Post: Trendy IV vitamin infusions don’t work — and might be unsafe. Experts explain why

I’m including the above article in this week’s news post in hopes of stimulating a conversation about IV vitamin infusions – NOT because I agree with the slant of the article.

I had a Myers Cocktail infusion as part of my Lyme/fibromyalgia treatment in 2017, and I didn’t notice any change in symptoms. Because of my limited experience, I don’t really have an opinion on whether these infusions work or not, but over the years, I’ve read about and talked with people who swear the Myers Cocktail can alleviate fibromyalgia-, Lyme- and/or ME/CFS-related fatigue.

I’m curious if any of you have done vitamin infusions, and if so, what was your experience? Did the infusions help, or were they a big waste of money? Share in the comments section below.

UKFibromyalgia.com: Can you learn more about FMS by observing the position of planets?

I don’t know what to think of this but I’m posting it just because it’s so … odd?!?!? Apparently, this Dutch astrology group wants our birth information to figure out if there are “demonstrable correlations between the positions of celestial bodies during the birth of a human being and the occurrence of FMS.”

And an extra…

Medical News Today: Could probiotic supplementation improve cognitive function?

From the article: “As Dr. Williams explained, the review demonstrates that ‘there is evidence, particularly in adults, of a relationship between gut health and the use of probiotics and cognitive functions.’”

Warrior of the Week…

This week’s Fibromyalgia Warrior of the Week is Zoe Simmons, a journalist from Melbourne, Australia!

Read about her: ‘It’s complicated’: A love letter to my mobility aids

Product of the Week…

(This section contains an Amazon affiliate link.)

This week’s Product of the Week is the “Mayo Clinic Guide to Fibromyalgia: Strategies to Take Back Your Life.” I did a video review of this book back in 2020 when it was first published.

The Mayo Clinic Guide gives an excellent overview of fibromyalgia research and treatments for anyone who is newly diagnosed or those who have focused mostly on pharmaceutical treatments since their diagnosis. It also would be a good educational resource for family and friends.

I tried vitamin infusions 5 separate times and found no improvement causing much disappointment.

I did the Myer’s cocktail once and didn’t notice any difference, I was also once given a vitamin C injection, but the doctor accidentally put it in a vein, so it was excruciatingly painful and I saw no difference from that either.

I tried an IV vitamin treatment back in 2013-2014. I did several and I couldn’t tell it helped with fibro pain, energy or brain fog.
