Practical Pain Management: Anger May Drive Subtype of Chronic Pain
From the article: “’Considerable controversy remains about whether discrete emotions – such as anger – are associated with activations of unique and specific neural networks or whether most or all emotions activate the same or similar neural networks,’ they wrote. However, studies have demonstrated that improved anger regulation can reduce pain.”

From the article: “This study also suggests that [mean platelet volume] is a cost-effective tool that can be utilized to diagnose or stratify the severity of fibromyalgia even in the peripheral centers of rural India. Future long-term follow-up studies can better substantiate this study.”

HealthRising.org: Mestinon Moves the Needle on ME/CFS in Exercise Study
From the article: “The trial succeeded in demonstrating that blood vessel issues affecting the veins are impairing energy production in ME/CFS, and can be improved with a drug. While the effect size was not large (i.e. the improvements did not meet ‘clinical significance’), this unusual one-shot drug trial didn’t appear to be designed to do that.”

From the masterclass description: “The information in the modules … take you on a journey. And we start at the very beginning. What is gluten and why is it important to you. From there we discuss how to find gluten in your foods even when the manufacturer tries to hide it from you. Then I show you how to clean out and stock up your refrigerator and pantry. Lastly we discuss what you can do when you’ve gone gluten free and still experience health issues.
“Along the way I give you helpful tips and information you can use to talk with your healthcare provider about YOUR specific needs. How to bring them onboard with a gluten free diet as well as some of the tests you might want to get. All designed to help you pinpoint what may be the root cause of whatever issue you experience.”

Just FYI: I ate gluten free from 2015-18. There are some small studies that support giving up gluten if you have fibromyalgia. I covered the research and shared my experience in this post:

Product of the Week…
After reading your comments and messages over the years, I know A LOT of you suffer from chronic back/neck pain and osteoarthritis in addition to fibromyalgia. If you fall into either of those categories, keep reading!
The Product of the Week is diclofenac pain-relieving gel (brand name: Voltaren).
Topical diclofenac used to require a doctor’s prescription, but it’s now sold over the counter under the brand name Voltaren. You can purchase it at most drugstores, grocery stores and big box stores like Walmart and Target. Some places carry a cheaper store brand, which is what I typically buy.
Amazon even has its own version.
This is my go-to cream for localized lower back and neck pain. I’m not going to say this stuff is amazing because, quite frankly, it doesn’t always help. However, it statistically performs better than any of the other pain creams I’ve tried over the years for lower back pain.
I haven’t found it helpful for general, diffuse fibromyalgia pain but I think it’s reasonably priced and worth a try if you have localized pain in the back/neck and/or joints.
Caveat: As with all of the products I share here, what works for me may or may not work for you since everyone is different!
