From the review: “In this systematic review and network meta-analysis of 36 randomized clinical trials (11 930 patients with fibromyalgia), duloxetine (120 mg) was associated with higher efficacy in treating pain and depression, while amitriptyline was associated with higher efficacy and acceptability in improving sleep, fatigue, and health-related quality of life outcomes.”
HealthRising.org: The Brainstem – Is it THE Pain Conductor in Fibromyalgia?
From the article: “The expected parts of the brainstem became activated in both the healthy controls and FM patients, but the brainstems of the people with FM went further – parts of the brainstem that are generally associated with autonomic nervous system functioning were also activated. One connection, in particular – to the rather vividly named nucleus gigantocellularis or NGc – shot up in the people with FM.”
From the review: “Based on the evidence from the available literature, it is difficult to draw any robust conclusions or make recommendations for the use of cannabis-based medicines from the treatment of FM. Currently, there is not enough high-quality evidence to indicate that cannabis is superior or at least as efficacious as other currently available treatments.”
From the review: “Five studies including 315 participants were identified. These studies found that vitamin D was effective in reducing Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire scores compared with that in the control group, with significant differences (weighted mean difference = -7.82, 95% confidence interval: -12.05 to -3.59, P < 0.001). However, there was no statistical difference in VAS between the two groups (weighted mean difference = -0.60, 95% confidence interval: -1.38 to 0.17, P > 0.05).”
From the article: “In August, Swing Therapeutics received FDA Breakthrough Device designation for its smartphone-based fibromyalgia management digital therapeutic. Now, the company has raised its $10.3 million Series A round to support a new clinical trial aimed at a possible FDA De Novo.”

For my fellow migraineurs…
As many of you know, I’ve suffered from chronic daily headaches and migraines for the past 4 years. When I mean “daily,” I mean that literally. As of yesterday (June 30, 2022), I have had 5 headache-free days in 4 years. No, that’s not a typo. I wish it was. 🙁
I know I’m not the only one who has headaches and migraines as part of their chronic illness journey, so I’ve decided to periodically share interesting articles or studies. The following article is from MigraineStrong.com, one of my favorite headache-related websites:
