Week of Jan. 25, 2016 fibromyalgia and ME/CFS news

So, you know that nasty case of plantar fasciitis I've been fighting since last spring? Well, it turns out it might not be plantar fasciitis after all. After three sets of steroid injections, laser treatments and weeks of physical therapy, my feet were still killing me, so I decided to see another podiatrist for a second opinion. He thinks I may have peripheral neuropathy, which is common in those with fibro. I will go for nerve testing next week to confirm. Obviously I'm not happy about this because neuropathy is extremely difficult to treat. The usual protocol calls for gabapentin, Lyrica … [Read more...]

2016 Valentine’s fibromyalgia and ME/CFS gift guide

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and I don't know about you, but many of the traditional gifts just don't work for those of us with fibromyalgia and/or ME/CFS. I can't eat most candy because the sugar and preservatives cause me days of increased pain. I can't remember the last time I wore lingerie (and neither can my hubby, poor man). A dinner out is nice, but I'm limited in what I can eat because I've gone gluten free. I'm guessing hubby is about ready to throw his hands up and forget the whole day, so I thought I'd do him (and the other loved ones out there - or to buy as a gift … [Read more...]

Week of Jan. 18, 2016 fibromyalgia and ME/CFS news

Brain fog has been rearing its ugly (and humorous) head for me lately. Last week, I spent an afternoon feeling like I was going to urinate all over myself. After hours of sitting with my thighs pressed together and running to the bathroom every 30 minutes, I finally realized what had happened: I'd forgotten to take one of my overactive bladder medicines that morning! I'd been wondering if that new medication was really helping. Guess I got my answer! And then this morning, I was getting ready to leave the house for an appointment. While dressing, I'd looked down and realized I was wearing … [Read more...]

It's been a good week at! This week, the National Fibromyalgia Association shared another of my posts on its Facebook feed. I'm so grateful for the NFA's support and would like to welcome my new readers! I have a couple of interesting posts in the works for the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned. In the meantime, here's this week's fibromyalgia and ME/CFS news.   Top stories ... Pfizer raises the price of Lyrica again ... Irish study finds drug addicts are abusing Lyrica. "We believe that misuse of this prescription drug is a serious emerging issue which should … [Read more...]

12 bloggers share their best tips for reducing fibromyalgia symptoms

I am a problem solver by nature, so when I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia two years ago, I obsessively researched information on the best strategies for reducing fibromyalgia symptoms. I found out there are no easy answers. Certain drugs work for some and not for others. Some people find relief through massage, and others howl from pain at the thought of it. Most of us have medicine cabinets full of supplements that promised to ease our pain or exhaustion. Some helped, and some didn't. Some of us find exercise helpful, and some of us silently scream every time someone mentions it. … [Read more...]

Week of Jan. 4, 2016 Fibromyalgia and ME/CFS news

Living with fibromyalgia is so frustrating. Last week, I had several very low-pain days in a row. I had maybe 10% of what my "normal" pain is each day.  And then came Monday. As soon as I stood up from the bed, I knew IT WAS BACK. My "normal" pain had returned. So now I'm left wondering why and how? Did I way overdo it by putting the Christmas decorations away on Sunday? Is it because the temperature outside took a major dip? Did I eat the wrong thing? My logical mind looks for patterns, but finds none. I'm grateful for those good days. It gives me hope that I'm continuing to improve. I … [Read more...]
