I received The Fay Farm Healing CBD Hemp Lotion and Warming CBD Muscle Rub to try in exchange for this review. I received no financial compensation. All opinions are my own.
If you read my recent “how I’m doing update,” then you know it’s been a trying three months for me. Despite making improvements in sleep, fatigue and gastrointestinal issues, I’ve still been experiencing quite a bit of fibromyalgia pain over the winter months.
My feet have caused the worst of it because they’re constantly tingling and burning now from neuropathy. It’s made it hard to get even basic things done like cleaning and grocery shopping.
My fibro friend Julie over at Counting My Spoons told me about The Fay Farm’s Healing CBD Hemp Lotion and how it helps quiet the neuropathy in her legs. I reached out to The Fay Farm, and they were happy to send me their Healing CBD Hemp Lotion and Warming CBD Muscle Rub on the agreement that if I liked them, I would review them on my blog. Well, I loved them!
Owned by Stacy Anderson and Michael Yocco, The Fay Farm specializes in natural body care products. From their five-acre farm on Whidbey Island, near Seattle, Washington, Stacy, Michael and their daughters raise Nubian goats for milk and grow herbs to use in their handmade, organic hemp-based products.
The Fay Farm’s products contain hemp oil, which is high in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and known for reducing inflammation. All products are free from parabens, alcohol, mineral oil and phthalates. In 2014, The Fay Farm began adding cannabidiol oil (CBD) to its popular Healing Hemp Lotion and Warming Muscle Rub to provide improved relief from pain, neuropathy, eczema, psoriasis and other conditions.
The Fay Farm Healing CBD Hemp Lotion review
Over the past six weeks, Fay Farm’s CBD lotion has become my go-to moisturizer. I typically shower every night before bed, and I use this as my nightly body lotion, taking care to apply it to any areas where I’m having increased pain, like my shoulders, arms and legs. I’ve also used it sans the shower when I just needed something to take the edge off of my fibro pain. If you have fibromyalgia, then you know nothing takes the pain away entirely, but the lotion does make it more tolerable.
I know this is going to sound corny, but I actually look forward to using the CBD lotion. There’s something about its light, herbal scent and overall creaminess that feels spa-like to me, and it’s a nice treat at the end of a long, painful day.
In the winter, I suffer from horribly dry skin. Fay Farm’s CBD lotion is thick and emollient enough that my legs didn’t develop snake scales this year. (Those of you with severely dry skin will know exactly what I’m talking about.)
I’ve had good results when using the lotion on my feet. I have nasty tingling, numbness, burning and pain in my feet from neuropathy. My new bedtime ritual is to combine Fay Farm’s lotion with an equal amount of magnesium lotion, slather that on the bottoms of my feet and then put on a pair of cushy, soft socks. I’ve used the products separately, and they both help on their own, but together they are awesome! (After hearing this, The Fay Farm is thinking about adding magnesium to its products for additional benefit.) The CBD lotion/magnesium lotion combo relieves the burning in my feet, so I can get to sleep. I also use this combo during the day when I need relief. Again, it doesn’t relieve the pain entirely – nothing does that – but it makes me feel more comfortable.
The Fay Farm Warming CBD Muscle Rub review
The Warming CBD Muscle Rub is good for fibromyalgia, arthritis, sore/stiff joints/muscles and other conditions, according to Fay Farm’s brochure and website.
I keep my tin of CBD Muscle Rub on my desk, so I can reach for it whenever I feel pain and tension in my shoulders, knees and back. It feels good to massage the rub into the knots in my upper back, and I like the overall cooling effect.
The rub has a light menthol scent that’s similar to other pain-relieving creams on the market but isn’t overpowering. The actual product is a semi-soft, brown ointment that’s easy to apply. A little goes a long way. I’ve been using mine off and on for more than a month now and still have more than half of the tin left.
A screw-on lid makes it easier to open and close the tin when your hands are cramping or are oily from applying the product. (If you’ve ever struggled to pull the lid off of a tin, then you’ll appreciate this feature.)
A little about CBD products
In recent years, CBD-rich products have received quite a bit of media attention as potential treatments for epilepsy, fibromyalgia, MS, neuropathy and other conditions. While the research is still bare, it’s becoming pretty common these days to hear fibromyalgia sufferers praise CBD’s benefits.
CBD is one of more than 85 cannabinoids that make up the cannabis/hemp plant. Most people are familiar with CBD’s close family member, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the cannabinoid that gives marijuana users a pleasant (at least to some people) high when they smoke it.
Unlike THC, CBD doesn’t have psychoactive qualities (i.e. it won’t make you high). CBD-rich products are an alternative for people who are seeking the medicinal benefits of cannabis, but who gave up smoking pot when they graduated college (or never used it in the first place).
The CBD contained within Fay Farm’s products comes from hemp. Based on my prior interviews with the Drug Enforcement Administration, hemp CBD body care products are legal in the U.S.
