July 28, 2017 fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and Lyme news | Fed Up with Fatigue

1.

Fibromyalgia News Today: Electrical brain stimulation could help relieve fibromyalgia pain, study suggests

Multiple studies now support the use of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) for fibromyalgia.

2.

Remedy: How to negotiate a medical bill

If you’ve got a big medical bill, it’s worth it to try to negotiate a discount. I was recently able to get a reduction on a Labcorp bill.

3.

Newsweek: Lyme disease vaccine on fast track for FDA approval

I guess some people would consider this to be good news, but the general public probably doesn’t remember that we had a Lyme vaccine in the 1990s. It was pulled from the market because it actually gave people Lyme disease – it had nothing to do with the anti-vaccine movement as this article suggests!!! It was making people sick! That failed vaccine is directly responsible for why chronic Lyme is not recognized by most health providers and why our current testing only catches about half of all Lyme cases, causing the suffering of millions, myself included. To learn more about the controversy, check out the free Lyme Cryme documentary on YouTube.

4.

Simmaron Research: Report from the NIH intramural study on ME/CFS

Blogger Cort Johnson gives a good overview of the National Institutes of Health’s intramural study on ME/CFS. They really are digging deep on this one! Since fibromyalgia and ME/CFS are thought to be related conditions, this could impact the fibro community, too. I hope they find something!

5.

Stat News: Your mind can be trained to control chronic pain but it will cost you

An interesting feature story on biopsychosocial pain management and how it could be used to treat chronic pain – if insurers would just cooperate!

And an extra…

The Thyroid Damsel: A review of various health apps

Blogger Lucy McGinty reviews several health apps, which can be used to track symptoms, medications, etc.

Shameless self-promotion…

I keep forgetting to include this! Last spring, I won a Virginia Press Association award for an article that I wrote to raise awareness of Lyme disease and how it can be mislabeled as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, MS, ALS, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and other conditions.

This week on FedUpwithFatigue.com…

Mirogabalin, one of three drugs under development for the treatment of fibromyalgia, didn’t adequately reduce fibro pain in recent trials. This is the second potential fibromyalgia drug to fail clinical trials within the past year. | Fed Up with Fatigue
